Summer is here! If you’re traveling to the beautiful island of Oahu this summer, or anytime for that matter here’s a list of ideas to consider on your trip.
I currently live on the island of Oahu, these are things I’ve personally done or have had friends or family experience.
Visit the North Shore
Want to see some giant waves? Check out the North Shore of Oahu in the Winter! You’re sure to seem some massive swells, (you may even catch a surf competition).
Eat at a Food Truck
You can find some great food at those little food trucks! You’ll come across quite a few in the North Shore.
Some popular spots on Oahu include Sharks Cove, Kaneohe Bay, and Haunama Bay.
Of course, Hawaii has surf lessons! Theirs’s actually quite a few companies on the island that provide lessons. Feeling brave or already know how to surf? You can just rent a board from a local surf shop.
Go on a Hike
Check out Diamond Head, Lanaki Pillbox, and Koko Head.
Stand Up Paddleboarding is a popular hobby on the island. You can rent them from popular beaches and surf shops.
Looking to shop on the Island? Ala Moana mall is an outdoor mall in Waikiki. You can also find some small boutiques in Kailua and the North Shore.
At the time of writing this article, the memorial is closed for repairs. So be sure to check the status before heading out there.
If you’re lucky enough to see a whale it’s well worth the time and money! They’re huge and it’s surely something you won’t forget. Whale watching season in Hawaii is mid-December through April.
A nice time for those of you who wanna grab a few drinks and enjoy the ocean views. Beware if you get seasick!
A true Hawaiian experience. Everyone should experience at least one on their trip to Hawaii. On Hawaii, I recommend Paradise Cove and Chief’s Luau.
Eat REAL Hawaiian Food
You’ll find this at the Luau mentioned above. Try the Kalua pork, rice, and poi.
I’m not gonna lie, I’m terrified of heights so this is perfect for you guys who aren’t. If I were gonna skydive from anywhere it would be here!
You can jump in the shark cage or even free dive with the amazing creatures.
Looking for a luau, an awesome show, and a learning experience all in one? This is the perfect place for just that!
Go to a Surf Competition
Depending on the time you visit the island you may be able to watch a surf competition. It get’s crowded sometimes, but it’s definitely something worth experiencing.
Rent a Boat
Rent a boat and take it out to the Sandbar in Kaneohe. It’s a great time, and you’re sure to see some beautiful views.
My favorite museum on the island! Learn about the history of the island, and much more. The kids will also enjoy it here.
Isn’t it better to swim with the dolphins rather than just looking at them? I say YES.
Depending on the season you can check out the Pumpkin Patch in Waimanalo.
The Sunflower Patch is at the same location as the Pumpkin patch if pumpkins aren’t in season sunflowers may be!
Eat a local Acai Bowl
You can find these all over the island, my favorite is Lanikai Juice.
Build a Sandcastle
Alright, guys, this activity has been my favorite one so far on the island! If you’re looking for a great place to Zip Line check out ClimbWorks. They have great guides, and they’re very informative. You also get to take advantage of 8 zip lines and great views!
A beautiful place to enjoy a relaxing horseback ride!
Add a massage to your vacation, because.. why not? You’re on vacation after all!
Looking for something a little more exciting than horseback riding? Check out the ATV rides available.
If you want to enjoy a water park on your vacation check out the Wet and Wild Water Park!
If you’re looking for something romantic to do with your significant other this would be perfect.
Aulani Disney Resort
Perfect for kids and adults! They have a great Disney character breakfast buffet, pools, a beach, and much more.
Go to a Concert
I’ve been to a few concerts out here. My favorite concerts are local reggae bands, they can really put on a show. If bigger names come to Oahu the prices are usually insane.
This is something you don’t see every day. If you’re looking for something unusual to do, this is it.
See the Sea Turtle and Monk Seals
You can sometimes find these creatures sunbathing, it’s pretty cool to see. NOTE: if you see them on the beach don’t get to close, stay at least 500 feet back (these animals are endangered).
Ever heard of pineapple soft serve? It’s SO GOOD! This alone is worth the trip to the Dole Plantation. They also have a maze, train rides, and more. The kids will love it here.
FREE, and relaxing. Bring a blanket and lay back to enjoy the views. Remember to bring a sweater or light jacket. It tends to get a little chilly on the beaches at night!
Another unusual activity on the island! These underwater scooter rides have some great reviews.
Picnic on the Beach
Another free activity to take advantage of. Hawaii is expensive, so it’s great to take advantage of the free activities.
Get a view of the island from above with a helicopter tour. Be sure to pack your camera, and enjoy the views!
Can you think of anywhere else that would be better to scuba dive? I haven’t personally scuba dived, but just snorkeling out here I’ve seen some awesome looking sea creatures.
With Hawaii having some of the best scenery around, you will definitely appreciate golfing here (if you’re a golfing fan).
Do you have any recommendations you think should be added to this list or an experience you would like to share? Let me know! I would love to hear about it.
